RefCam: American Sports Need to Import This Feature Right Now

Fox Sports Australia is touting its RefCam, “an absolute game changer.” Watch what it does for the rugby experience, then think about how awesome this could be for any major televised sport. Football and soccer, you start.

Would American pro sports leagues want this technology? Sure it brings you closer to the action than ever, but it may tip off viewers that the refs and umps who factor in the outcomes of games weren’t even in position or looking where they should have been. Who cares, just make this happen now.

Some minor Googling shows that MMA events have used this, but it’s not commonplace in the sport yet. That needs to change, post-haste.
