One day your co-worker says, “And then I saw Grumpy Cat was takin’ photos at SXSW,” and you interrupt with, “What the shit is Grumpy Cat?,” and your know-it-all co-worker is like, “You don’t know Grumpy Cat? He’s everywhere!,” and you’re like, “I can’t wait to die and get unplugged from all you idiots.”
Memes strike us all differently. Early adopters hop off quickly and hate from the showers, latecomers are genuinely into the awesomeness of someone’s face or pet becoming a national thing, and everyone in the middle wonders how the hell this thing got started. And, also, WHY did this get started?
Mark it down: Grumpy Toad officially became a meme early Tuesday, March 19. One little post of a ganked nature photo to the aww subreddit could very well lead to months and months of Impact font on pictures and social media companies trying to fly it all over the world for easy Instagram fodder.
