Watch Australian Students Rescue a Koala From a Mine Shaft See? Having class outside really is productive. University of Ballarat students on a nature walk for an outdoor-education course stumbled upon a koala trapped in a 14-foot mine shaft. They used a large branch to let the little guy crawl up onto the ground, but when it tried to leap to another tree, it fell back down the shaft. The marsupial made it on the second try, though. Faculty at the college estimate the koala may have been trapped for several days before the students found it.
