See below for some big updates …

Dogs are referred to as man’s best friend, but what happens when man’s best friend turns out to be man’s attacker? A cat must step in.

A little boy in Bakersfield, Calif., was playing in his driveway when a neighbor’s dog snuck up behind him and grabbed his leg. Things could have gotten real ugly, real fast, if the boy’s cat Tara wasn’t nearby to save the day. Tara jumped in and scared off the vicious dog, and the boy walked away with just a few stitches. The amazing episode was caught on camera.

Although, on second look, we’ve uncovered the real reason that Tara sprung into action (via our @SteveTConroy):

UPDATE: TMZ reports the dog will be put to sleep:

As if being beaten up by a cat wasn’t bad enough, TMZ has learned … the dog was picked up by animal control yesterday and the decision has been made to put it to sleep.

Sources tell us … the dog was aggressive even after it was captured and officials decided it was in the best interest for everyone involved to euthanize the canine.

Good luck getting the cat people in your life to shut up now.
