Score another one for Russia’s “It Gets Worse” campaign. Just when you thought things had hit rock bottom for gay people living in Russia, along comes another galactically stupid piece of proposed legislation that would deny gay parents custody over their own children.

The bill’s author, Alexei Zhuravlev, declared that not only should homosexual “propaganda” be banned not only in the public space (that bill passed in June, overwhelmingly), “but also in the family,” according to the AP.

The draft bill, published on parliament’s website on Thursday, would make the “fact of nontraditional sexual orientation” a basis for denying custody. Other grounds include alcoholism, drug use, and abuse.
The proposal comes in the wake of a bill banning homosexual “propaganda” among minors. Authors of the bill have justified it as a measure aimed at protecting children, and not suppressing the LGBT community.

Great! Being gay parents is as bad for children as being an abusive drunk! Nice to know ‘Murrica’s not alone in awful gay comparisons.
