On May 26, 2012, Ronald Poppo was brought to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital after being savagely attacked on the MacArthur Causeway. He became known as the “cannibal victim” of Rudy Eugene, who became known as the “Miami Zombie.”

Poppo, now 66, is “living happily and adjusting to his new life,” according to a press release from doctors at Jackson Memorial Perdue Medical Center, a long-term care facility where Poppo has lived since being transferred from the trauma center a month after the brutal attack.

Poppo, one year later, has a message for those that wished him well:

If you want, send Poppo a message using the Twitter hashtag #Wishes4Poppo, and a nurse will read them to him next week.
