In our quaint, capitalistic American society, we have planned public events like the FDNY vs. NYPD hockey game. Bravest versus finest, buy tickets, yeah, cool, witness our fun little competitive rivalry.

Over in Spain, where austerity measures have justifiably brought out the worst in public sector employees, the age-old police versus firefighters rivalry isn’t quite as friendly. Even as the European Union gave Spain and five other states more time to bring their budget deficits under control, riot police were charging at firefighters during a protest against austerity measures in front of the Catalunya Parliament in Barcelona.

This half-naked Barcelona bullfight protest was much easier on the eyes.
