The failing health of 94-year-old Nelson Mandela has provided a poignant backdrop for President Barack Obama’s eight-day trip to Africa.

On Sunday, before a big speech in South Africa, Obama took time to visit Mandela’s former prison cell, where the former South African leader spent 18 years of his 27-year prison term. Here, Obama peers out from Section B, prison cell No. 5, on Robben Island.
