India has been bit by a deluge of rain, flooding parts of the country and killing dozens. In one instance, an entire apartment building in northern India collapsed as it was swept away by floodwaters.

According to the CBC, at least 23 people have been killed since the monsoon season began earlier this month. The torrential rain has hit the northern parts of India the hardest. Dozens remain missing.

Amit Chandola, a government spokesman, said the extremely heavy rain is expected to continue for the next several days.

“The situation is very grim. The meteorological office has predicted that the rain will continue for another three days at least,” said Chandola.

Monsoon season usually lasts until September, bringing rain that is critical to India’s farming output.
