Toddler Makes Most Compelling Argument For Marriage Equality On Wednesday, Minnesota families spoke in support of a bill that would eliminate the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. Paul Melchert and James Zimmerman inadvertently made the most convincing argument when their three-year-old son Emmett went rogue. The video follows below, but here’s the play-by-play of what a true family, regardless of orientation, looks like: Everything seemed normal when the strikingly handsome doctor and his adorable boy approached the podium. Then Emmett spotted the microphone and it was “game on.” Paul attempted to calm his son. Undeterred, Emmett went for his father’s neck. And then his face. • SEE ALSO: Larry & Randy: What Marriage Equality Is All About Emmett became determined to stifle his father’s argument that “children raised by same-gender parents fair equally in all areas of emotional, psychosocial, and behavioral adjustment.” Then it was time run his toy car over his father’s face. But not without a little more microphone action. And again. Another family’s little girl even tried to get in on the action. But Emmett had the last laugh when he finally got close enough to the microphone to speak. By the end of the speech all Paul and James could do was chuckle at the rebel toddler. By handling the situation with class and charm, Paul and James ending up making the best argument yet for supporting marriage equality in the state of Minnesota. Watch the clip below.
