A routine slaughter went horribly wrong when a New Zealand farmer shot a cow in the head, only to have the bullet bounce off and hit his 18-year-old assistant. The teen was flown to a hospital in Auckland; a spokeswoman says he’s now in critical condition.
The slaughterman says he was concerned about his assistant and didn’t shoot the cow again, so, naturally, the police came to the farm — which happens to be near a children’s learning center — and blew the animal to bits. Somewhere, Peter Singer is reading this and going, “Hmm.”
