The San Francisco Giants climbed out of a 3-1 series hole to win the National League pennant on Monday night. They will now meet the Tigers in the World Series to try and spoil Detroit’s only good thing going.

Reliever Sergio Romo‘s awesome beard came in to shut the door on the St. Louis Goonies Cardinals (never say die!), and that makes us extremely happy. Why? Because Romo, on the final day of the Major League Baseball season, performed the mitzvah of all mitzvahs, getting the entire Giants bullpen to sign a ball before giving it to a young Dodgers fan with cancer. It was the underreported story of the year in baseball.

Good Guy Romo, after you returned to the dugout and wept, after you showed us what being a human being in the sports word means, after you shut down the Cards in the NLCS, you deserve all the kudos.
