'Unfortunate': KONY 2012 Filmmaker Detained for Public Masturbation “Uganda be kidding me!” –@ohheybill KONY 2012 hit the 100-million view mark in just six days, the fastest video to ever reach that barrier. So you’d expect Invisible Children co-founder Jason Russell to celebrate his good deeds. Unfortunately, it appears as if the children of South Sudan weren’t the only ones snorting gunpowder laced with cocaine. Russell, 33, was detained on Thursday night in Pacific Beach “for being drunk in public and masturbating, according to San Diego Police Department,” NBC San Diego reported. NBC San Diego has more details on the bizarre episode: Jason Russell, 33, was allegedly found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and possibly under the influence of something, according to Lt. Andra Brown. He was detained at the intersection of Ingraham Street and Riviera Road. Brown said Russell was acting very strange. Police said they received several calls yesterday at 11:30 a.m. of a man in various stages of undress, running through traffic and screaming. Police described him as “in his underwear.” Several people attempted to calm him down and when officers arrived they said he was cooperative. Not a good PR story for Invisible Children, both his advocacy group and the ones he was firing off. But, hey, this should help him secure Paul Reubens’ coveted endorsement for the KONY 1012 campaign. When contacted, Joseph Kony told us, “Hey, at least I didn’t nut on anyone’s car.” UPDATE: Invisible Children released this statement: “Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday. Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.” It should be noted, Russell is by all accounts a good guy who had a bad night. We can all have a little fun at this bizarre story, but let’s not let that distract from his good deeds. Guest 16.03.12 @ 7:52 pm Somehow this line makes no sense at all. “When contacted, Joseph Kony told us, “Hey, at least I didn’t nut on anyone’s car.”
Reagan Rausch 17.03.12 @ 3:54 am Except the whole charity is a scam and they keep 70% of the profits, and only 10% gets to Africa, and is given to the Ugandan militia who rape/loot/murder innocent people and KIDNAP CHILDREN TO TRAIN AS CHILD SOLDIERS. Kony 2012 has made the world an even worse place.
KONY VICTIM 19.03.12 @ 2:04 pm None of you understand what is happening. I live in Kony land. The UPDF fought Kony and his army just in front of my house. There are still holes in the front of my house where the bullets hit during this battle. Kony captured young people, had them to kill their parents, relatives and friends, then cut the people they had killed into pieces and boil them and had the captured people to eat those boiled people. Kony and the rebels, destroyed many villages, rural homes, gardens etc by burning. People were killed in those fires. Thousands and thousands of people left the little they had and ran to the towns as refuge for their lives. The sizes of these towns more than trebled overnight. For many, many months we could hear the guns of the rebels firing after dark. It was common to just drift off to sleep while the guns were firing. Only to awaken in the morning to more shooting of guns. Thousands and thousands of people ran into the town each night and slept each night on the verandahs, in the hospitals, in the churches, in the schools and even under the trees. They were under those tress even when it rained so hard at night. The water was not as a much a threat to them as Kony and his rebels. Food and water and sanitation became a problem when the town dramatically increased in size overnight. As a church we helped feedover 600 refuges each day. This was such a smallnumbercompared to those in the town. Many young girls, and I mean young some 11 to 14 years old, were captured by the rebels and made to become wives of the rebels. Many of them were beaten, impregnated and infected with HIV. These young girls were the cooks and sex slaves for the rebels. If they complained they were killed. Kony captured the elderly but often killed them because they could not keep up running with them. One of these young captured girls managed to escaped after many months inactivity. She came back to town and told so many ugly stories about Kony and his rebel activities. She told how Kony was being controlled by demons and how he used evil spirits and demons to fight his war. She said Kony was not afraid of UPDF or the arrow boys (the local militia) but that he was afraid of the prayers of the saved people in the town. He said their prayers were bothering his evil spirits and demons. These prayers are what defeated him in our town and drove him out. KONY 2012 does not tell the whole story. Yet I showed the video to my granddaughter and told her I would not have made that video. The maker exposed himself and his young son too much. I told her Kony and/or his agents and demons will go after this man. Now this reports show that the demons have done just that. The man who made the video and founded Invisible Children needs to cover himself with prayers and protection of the blood of Jesus. I HOPE HE AND HIS WIFE READS THIS COMENT. He does not need a doctor…he needs Dr. Jesus. And a little research shows that the US troops sent to Uganda were already in the making before members of Invisible Children went to Washington, DC. Wish theIR presence would make a difference this time. But they were also here in this town when Kony and his rebel groups were here…enjoying themselves with government army officers in the best hotel in town. I know more but will not tell it. But we were told ahead of time by a prophet here that the rebels were coming and that we needed to pray. This is a war that can and must be won. But it is a spiritual war. If all those supporters had offered as many prayers as they did dollars I am sure that the commander and King of Kings would have already defeated His enemy. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers…. The prayers of the Christians can do more in this issue than all the armies in the world. But we need to unite.Kony cangoandbe anywhere. You could be next. Or it could be your daughter slaving over a hot fire on three stones cooking up a tasty stew of human flesh and becoming a juicy sex salve to satisfy the beastly sexual hunger of 10 or more tired, dirty rebels looking for a little relief from the brutalactivities of day. From one in Konyland
Alice Kottmyer 19.03.12 @ 3:49 pm The Reubens reference is really lame. He was never convicted of anything (he pled no contest), and besides that, it was over two decades ago. If you’re trying to be funny, you really should leave comedy to the professionals.
