Women’s Health Advocates Cooch Watch Do ‘Call Me Maybe’ Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is the indisputable smash hit of 2012. It’s been covered by everyone from President Obama to Chatroulette. Not only has it been adapted to become empowerment anthems for sharing care of our friends at “Sesame Street,” but it’s also helped a deployed soldier connect with his nephew. The newest embodiment of this unsinkable song comes to us courtesy of the amazingly named Cooch Watch: a parody anthem called “Hands Off, Crazy.” These pro-choice crooners have a message for Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli: “It’s my vagina, so hands off, crazy!” (Cuccinelli, like many others in the GOP, stands in ardent opposition of accessible reproductive health — he’s shut down all 23 of Virginia’s abortion clinics.) The same thing goes for the government’s decision to mandate birth control coverage. If reproductive rights activists want total control, they, and their partners, should take full responsibility for the financial aspects of their personal decisions.
