What would you do if you were young, unemployed and didn’t have to pay more than departure tax on any flight you took for a whole summer? Where would you go? How would you budget your time? Would you use your powers for good? For evil? For sloth? This dude’s story is certainly unique.

A Reddit user named Generique approached the überaggregator hivemind three months ago, saying he was ready, willing and able to help out where needed. Moving? Weeding a garden? He’s there.

Following the footsteps of these guys, I want to have a reddit-powered epic summer adventure. As a result of having a family member employed by a large airline, I have the ability to travel non-rev status (if there’s empty seats and no one ahead of me in line), paying only departure taxes. I’d rather not disclose the specific airline, in case I get into shenanigans that might reflect on them.

Want me to hand deliver a letter to someone across the country or overseas? Attempt to help you with homework? Volunteer at your organization for a day? Need an extra pair of hands to do that landscaping project you’ve been putting off for months? Know a sweet hiking spot but have no one to go with?

The Internet can be a cruel, dark place (film at 11). But stories like this make all the nonsense worth enduring (kinda!).

The project sparked his very own subreddit called ReVenture, and we’ve now been treated to several front-page updates from Daniel, aka Generique, aka “Reddit Travel Guy.” Here’s the latest:

Hey Reddit, I’ve had a crazy, crazy summer and have you guys to thank. My travels brought me across the US and Canada, through rural Thailand, to Seoul and Sydney. Over the last three months I have met hundreds of redditors and gone on some cool adventures.

Some highlights of his trip (all here):

Not only did this handsome stranger go out of his way to help people in real life, he also raised and donated several hundred dollars to charity along the way. Seems like quite the trip. Would you do the same?

Daniel is doing an AMA on Reddit this Sunday at noon PST. Tune in.
