Freaky Flying People Invade New York City
Most New Yorkers are either desensitized to eerie shit or a little bit crazy. But flying people? Up in the sky? Yeah, that’s enough to grab even the most jaded Manhattanite’s attention.
The whole thing’s right out of Superman II, without any such kneeling before Zod.
It’s not viral marketing for Superman II‘s re-release, but it is marketing nonetheless. The remote-controlled human-shaped planes are part of a promotion for Chronicle, the science fiction film about teenagers who gain superhuman powers (like flying) and use them for personal gain. It opens Friday.
Viral marketing agency Thinkmodo is behind the idea. The company’s Michael Krivicka told TechCrunch: “Since the three main characters of the movie have the ability to fly, we came up with the idea of staging a few ‘flying people’ sightings around NYC. We achieved that illusion by having 3 custom-made aircraft (which were shaped like human beings) fly above designated areas in NYC and NJ.”
Thinkmodo has been crushing it with great ideas — this is the same company that gave us “iPad Head Girl” and “What Girls Look At: Crotch, Butt, Glasses or Biceps?” Watch both here:
So: Cool experiment with no effect, or will you go see Chronicle now? Weigh in below…
