The world wide web is like the wild wild west, everyone jacking photos and assorted content from one another, pilfering without regard for claim or copyright. Grab this, manipulate that, repackage and sell like new. For now, it works, but the downside comes when you don’t realize what you’re swiping.
Case in point, the Facebook ad above for InsuranceSavings, a company that wants Texas drivers to know they can save big money. All you have to do is click this picture of a 9/11 terrorist and … wait, what?
Oh yeah, thought you recognized that guy in the photo? It’s Mohamed Atta, one of the 19 dudes who changed the history of the world. Atta is probably the most recognizable of the 9/11 hijackers, his visage plastered on various news reports for the past 10 years.
So how did this happen? It’s still unclear. In the meantime, the company has pulled the ads featuring a mass-murdering religious zealot and said it’s investigating the cause of this mix-up.
