Rick Perry is the New Rebecca Black

A funny thing happened on the way to Rick Perry’s “If you listen to this video on mute it looks like I’m filming a Viagra/Cialis/Dr. Porkenheimer’s Boner Juice” commercial.

Most videos on the Texas Governor’s YouTube page have the like/dislike button disabled — a smart move politically, considering the capability of Internet trolls and haters to mobilize with one click of a button. His latest message to the people, though, left the likes/dislikes enabled. Uh oh.

The new ad — a 31-second spot called Strong — puts his Christian faith front and center. “There’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school,” he says (with a straight face, if you can believe it).

Rick Perry may approve of this message, but the people of YouTube don’t approve of it. Take a look at the bottom-right of this screenshot, taken at 8:30 am ET on Thursday.

(That figure has climbed to 15,666 likes, 545,983 dislikes as of 10 am on Saturday.)

Yikes. That’s 36 dislikes for every like. That’s Rebecca Black territory right there. Actually, it’s worse. Even though Black’s “Friday” quickly became the most disliked video of all time, at least some supporters clicked “like” enough times that the ratio wasn’t nearly this bad. Black’s “Friday” was taken down and re-posted in September, but the new version has a 251K to 71K dislike-to-like ratio — that’s just 3-to-1. Her follow-up video, “My Moment,” has nearly 600K dislikes, but only a 1.47-to-1 D/L ratio. Not good.

There’s only one way to spin this, Perry camp: It’s time to accept the harsh reality that the American people have been brainwashed into supporting President Obama’s war on religion. Oops.

This spawned one of the best quick-action Tumblrs of 2011: Rick Perry’s Unpopular Opinions.

As the lovable @GeorgeTakei points out, Perry just can’t quit the LGBT folks…
