‘Doin’ It in the Park’ Looks Like the Best Basketball Doc Since ‘Hoop Dreams’ SHARE: Tweet Directors Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau hit 180 New York City basketball courts to collect footage for their new documentary, Doin’ It in the Park (summer 2012), an exploration of the sport’s social impact on low-income communities. They profile NBA stars Julius Erving, Kenny Smith and Kenny Anderson, and street legends such as Pee Wee Kirkland, who were brought up on pick-up ball’s distinct and unforgiving set of on- and off-the-court rules in New York, called the Mecca of the summer pick-up scene. Watch the trailer here: Also look out for “Fly” Williams, God Shammgod, Tim “Headache” Gittens, Corey “Homicide” Williams, Jack Ryan, Richard “Crazy Legs” Colon, Niki Avery, Milani Malik, and the Park Pick-up Players of NYC.
