[VIDEO] So That’s What Skittles Means By “Taste the Rainbow”

To be perfectly clear before you jump all over the client, the following spec ad was *not* approved by the Skittles brand or its parent company, Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, which is a division of Mars, Inc.

Back in June, AdWeek reported that TBWA, the advertising agency responsible for so many great “Taste the Rainbow” ads for Skittles, had been stripped of its Mars business. And speaking of being stripped, an L.A. directing team called Cousins (Keith Hamm and Jordan Sharon, who say on their site that they’re “two of 237 cousins”) produced this spec ad that will no doubt shed light on the candy’s famous slogan.

Prudes everywhere may be rushing to condemn such a filthy premise, but that’s about as awesome a commercial as you’ll find. It’s funny, it’s provocative, and if it had been approved it would certainly generate as much free press as any paid-for ad in this history of the business.

Skittles, green-light this thing! The money shot would be a money maker.
