Somewhere on the lyrical streets of San Francisco, you might come across a trumpet player named Gabriel Angelo, a precocious 12-year-old decked out in fine threads, playing for change.
Angelo, on the surface, seems like any normal pre-teen. But do you know many kids that can play the theme from The Godfather on the trumpet, imitate Marlon Brando’s infamous chin scratch and launch into some old blues and jazz standards for passersby, all to fund his continued music education?
A 29-year-old German journeyman touring the world named Fabian Sixtus Körner met Angelo on the corner of 4th and Mission, and working with photographer Daniel Castro, Körner filmed a short documentary for his delightful Stories of a Journeyman. He called it “The Trumpet Kid.”
Körner provides some more background on Angelo:
Currently he’s taking part in America’s got talent and after such a long time ignoring this show I will propably follow it from now on.
A grown-up in a child’s costume? That’s just about the most perfect description possible.
