Ginger Genius: Conan O’Brien Continues Making Lemons into Gold with Feature Documentary [Trailer]

He won’t stop, because he can’t stop. While NBC’s Coup de Coco put the kibosh on his Tonight Show last year, there’s really no way to keep Conan O’Brien from being funny.

Case in point: he promptly took his personality to Twitter and his act on the road last year, after agreeing in a settlement with NBC to stay off TV for 9 months. But if you understand comedy, you know that the funniest people are usually the smartest too…which brings me to the part of the story where he had the whole thing recorded and made into a documentary.

Many a Conan fan will tell you that the funniest segments on his various talk programs over the years have been those that saw him step out from behind the desk and candidly riff with impromptu straightmen, like when he met with a TBS exec to talk about what is and is not appropriate content for the show in one of its first episodes. Jay may have that hilarious Canadian tuxedo, but Conan has a little something called comedic timing, and that can’t be acidwashed. That being the case, I can easily see this movie combining moments of him at his funniest with a unique perspective on what it’s like to stand up for yourself while getting completely screwed out of your dream job. The guy literally made a career on poking fun at himself, only to have his heart ripped out and utterly smashed by the suits.

Laugh, cry, sing, and dance. This sounds like a winner.

P.S. 60 Minutes’ piece on the whole fiasco in case you missed it.
