Women Who Inspire My TiVO

It is no secret that television may not be the best place to find role models (Hello, Jersey Shore!), but every now and then, some women will jump out at you through your screen and into your heart.

snl-amy-poehler-hillary-clintonHere a few that hold a special place in my heart:

Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation: Whenever I feel sluggish, I put on Parks and Recreation and just look at Leslie. She is not only an amazing deputy director of parks and recreation in Pawnee, Indiana, but she also ran a successful campaign for city councilor, found the man of her (and my) dreams and she even has time for amazing crafts (a unity quilt to bring her future in-laws together with her family – GENIUS!). Her obsessions with Joe Biden and waffles make her real and lovable. It’s hard to say nope to Knope.

Alex Dunphy, Modern Family: Alex may be working her way through high school but she is no doubt one of the smartest characters on television. She can be a little pushy, but Alex still works super hard to get what she wants, whether that is a Christmas tree with her Uncle Mitchell or winning any academic competition. Surrounded by crazy characters, Alex is pretty much the closest to normal on the show.

Robin Scherbatsky, How I Met Your Mother: Robin might not be the future Mrs. Mosby, but she is one of a kind. Robin puts herself before all else; she travels to Argentina just because, drinks scotch because it is delicious and not to impress a man, and has five dogs which just sounds like a riot. Her jokes are raunchy and hilarious and she pulls off just about every outfit she puts on. Robin has us all cheering for her in both her personal and professional lives.
